Develop a new file manager?

= What’s on your mind?
- I can’t believe there’s no real alternative to the default file explorer on the windows platform.
= Isn’t that because the current one is good enough?
- Maybe, I don’t know. I guess for the average user it’s good enough, but I feel most power users would like something a little more powerful. Currently, I use 7-Zip file manager, which is pretty good, almost perfect.
= So then, what’s the problem?
- I guess there’s really isn’t one. However, there are some things I would like to be able to change/customize.
= OK, like what?
- Lets think… sometimes, when I’m working in a particular directory, let’s say on the left pane, I would like the ability to have the alternative pane switch to the same directory with a simple keystroke; so I can move, copy, compare, etc the files.
= Can’t you do that already?
- I don’t think so, let me take a look at the documentation…
- HEY!!! Whatta ya know, it’s supports that and other cool commands!
= RTFM you dummy!
- Although it did take me a while to figure out the “Grey” key is equal to NumPad+… am I the only one who didn’t know this?
= Anything else, Einstein?
- Ummm… I think I’m too embarressed now!
- One parting thought, I think it would be cool to build a pure .Net file manager but not just another Norton Commander clone; something that changes the way we think and use file systems! But since what’s already out there is pretty good, maybe almost perfect, maybe there’s not enough reason to spend all that time and energy developing something new?
